Friends of Little Wonder Radio Plays
Everybody needs friends. Here are some of the competitions, podcasts and organisations that have helped us: supported our work, promoted our plays or publicised our competition. You should check them out. More details about each are on the individual pages.

Competitions
The Atlantis International Short Story Competition
Atlantis run an annual short story competition that gives some of the best entry feedback on the internet. They accept unpublished English language stories between 300 and 2500 words, and published a write up about Little Wonder that you can find here.
The BBC Writers Room
Writers Room is so much more than a competition – it is the very best collection of resources, opportunities and, yes, competitions, gathered together by the BBC to help find, promote and educate up and coming writers. They graciously supported our 2018 writing competition and represent the very best way to get “found” for new writers. Keep a close eye on the site, because opportunities come and go quickly. Actually, I think I’ll head over there right now…
Podcasts
Radio Charades
Radio Charades is a podcast by one of our writers (Toby Frost) and the artist responsible for all our beautiful track images (Owen Roberts). Almost exactly like going down to the pub with two old mates and quietly drinking your pint while they talk about geeky stuff, films they like and totally misinterpret whatever is going on in the news. Highly recommended.
TSVP Radio Theater
TSVP’s Radio Theater Podcast presents classic, contemporary, and original imaginative audio productions, including recorded, staged, and live streamed performances before live audiences. In addition to showcasing performances, the podcast is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the craft of local theater.
Organisations
Moving Parts
Moving Parts were essential the formation of Little Wonder. A theatre troupe run by the incomparable Stephanie Campion, they do readings in Paris with professional actors of new plays to a public audience. After the show there is a Q&A and the audience gives feedback. As any writer knows, this sort of experience is absolutely invaluable, and it is also an opportunity to meet and get to know some of the finest anglophone actors on the Paris scene.
Paris Writers Group
The Paris Writers Group was founded by Mary Duncan and is for published writers based mainly in France to discuss literary agents, editors, writer’s block, private publishing, marketing, websites, blogs, platforms, ebooks and trends in the publishing industry. They limit membership to 25 writers, so getting invited to join feels a bit like getting to go back stage at a Rolling Stones gig and joining the group in 2017 was a real privilege. PWG published a write up about Little Wonder here.
Writers Reign
A fabulous collection of resources, upcoming competitions and lists that should be bookmarked by any writer. Mervyn Love was kind enough to include us in his list of upcoming play competitions here, which if you like our stuff and are a budding playwright you should definitely check out.
English Language Books in Paris
Abbey Bookshop (Twitter)
A Canadian bookshop in Paris with shelves stacked so high that it’s like my dream library where you can hear the books whispering as you pass.
American Library in Paris
@amerlibparis. Events, speakers, connections, quiet study spaces and books, books, books. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Berkley Books of Paris
@BBoParis, where they are just as enthusiastic about radio as they are about literature and a ten minute chat will make you believe there’s hope for the human race after all.
Gibert-Joseph Paris
@GibertJoseph on boulevard Saint-Michel, whose beaux-arts section were so warm and lovely and welcoming even though I was speaking French with the largest English accent since the fighter pilots in Allo Allo.
Shakespeare & Co
The famous @Shakespeare_Co, where I was a little anxious until they all got so enthusiastic talking about theatre and radio that it took three of us to stick up the poster. Calling them literature lovers just doesn’t do it justice.
WH Smiths Paris
@WHSmith Paris on 248 rue du rivoli gives one the bizarre sensation of stepping through Mr Benn’s closet to discover Britain hidden away in the centre of Paris. Tried to talk the bookseller into being in the photo, instead she persuaded me to buy a copy of the Vagina Monologues! Caveat Emptor.
San Francisco Book Shop – Facebook @sanfranciscobooksco #sfbooksparis –
@sanfranciscobooksco #sfbooksparis, possibly the best-looking second-hand booksellers in the city. And an amazing selection of out of print sci-fi.
Good Places to Drink, Eat and Write
La Place Rouge (Facebook)
https://www.facebook.com/LAPLACEROUGE.KB/ – quite simply the best place to get drunk and write plays in the world. Have written four plays and one and a half novels here. Plus the burger is to die for.
