Now that we have our first few plays published, a years worth of material recorded, and all our social media platforms set up and just about running (check where you can follow us here), Little Wonder are running a competition.
We are actively seeking new writers to join our group. To that end, from July 13th – August 30th 2018 we are inviting submissions of 1600-2000 word radio plays written for no more than four characters. We want to be entertained, excited and intrigued. We want you to be challenged, and most of all have fun – it’s a ten minute radio play, take the chance to do something you wouldn’t normally do!
Entry is free provided you follow the submission guidelines. All long-listed plays will receive written feedback and have a month to make any modifications they may wish before submitting for the shortlist phase. All shortlisted plays will be shown and recorded at a public performance in Paris on December 16th 2018. Winners, decided by a combination of judge and public vote, will be announced on December 30th.
We are also introducing special categories for BAME and LGBTQ+ writers. Judges will make their choices blind, but if when the longlist is completed there are no BAME or LGTBQ+ writers on the list, we will expand the longlist to include the next best writers in those categories. This will have no further impact on the shortlist of selection of the winner.
What’s all this about joining the team? We have a highly collaborative style of working – we share notes, help each other out on projects, and generally practise the “bill and ted” mantra of being excellent to each other. The central purpose of this competition is to find writers who fit in with this ethos and may wish to get involved in more projects next year. And we have lots of interesting projects lined up for next year! The hope is that if we all work together, if we keep on writing and improving, if we keep on publishing and finding new audiences, then one day Chris Chibnall will invite us to come write Doctor Who. You get the idea. You don’t have to want to join us to enter the competition, but think of it as a side bonus – we want new writers for new adventures.
If you fancy having a go, or you know anybody else who fancies having ago, check out our guidelines, rules and submission procedure, and share this post with anybody and everybody you know who might be into writing a radio play. Come and get your ten minutes of glory in the bright lights of Paris!
